Yes.. he proposed to me on 14/12/08 and I said yes.
Here's the story of how it all began (Story by Shawn):
How does any proposal start? Of course you'll have to gain the permission of her parents first. During mid november on the 12th, Jac was having her final paper and she wouldn't be at home. It was the perfect opportunity for me to call her home without her knowing. hahaha :D So after I sent her to SIM for her exam, I called her home and asked her mum for permission to propose to her and to ask whether I could buy her a cat as part of my plan. It has been her lifelong wish to have a pet cat and everytime, her mum would say no. Given this special occasion, I was hoping that her mum would agree and she did! Yeah! Ok, so now the planning can begin after seeking approval.
Plan A: The initial plan was to propose to her up at the lighthouse at Seletar reservoir during sunset. We've been there to watch the sunset before and the view is spectacular. As part of this plan, I will have a couple whom I know bring up the cat and the bouquet of flowers to the lighthouse while we were taking photos. The cat and flowers are supposed to belong to the couple and we would be there just watching them. Knowing Jac, she will definitely go over to play with the cat. The cat would have a collar with a tag engraved with the words "Will you marry me?" While she's playing with the cat, I'm expecting her to see the tag and then at the moment she sees it, I'll kneel down and ask her, "Will you marry me?" Then my friends will pass me the flowers and I'll take out the ring.
I seeked a few of my friends' opinion about this plan and they helped me identify the loopholes. Firstly, it was in december and it's the monsoon season! Since it is at an outdoor venue, the unpredictable weather will likely disrupt this plan. Secondly, what if the cat runs away into the bush or something like that?! OMG, that cannot happen. So I had to think of a better plan.
So here's Plan B: Basically, I built plan B using plan A's concept. The opportunity arose when Jayne called for a primary school gathering. Mrs Lim's called for the gathering but sadly she had some last minute family committments and couldn't be there to witness my proposal. Oh, back to the gathering... Knowing plan A wasn't feasible anymore, I suddenly thought that the gathering would be very much better. We met each other during a primary school class gathering and wouldn't it be nice to propose to her also at the same event? cool right? Also, it will be held indoors and the rain wouldn't disrupt any plan. The cat wouldn't be able to run away either. Perfect! So I called Jayne and George, my two accomplices, and we began plotting how I would propose to Jac. Besides providing the venue for my proposal, she also helped me out by recommending a florist to me. That's where I got the very nice bouquet of flowers. George helped me set up the "stage" for proposal and he was the one who picked the cat and put her in the bag because Jayne was afraid of cats.
Here's more details on the execution of the plan. The day before the actual day, my accomplices and I met up at Jayne's house for a rehearsal to practise the plot. On the day of our gathering, which is on the 14th of December 2008, the florist has been told to deliver the flowers to Jayne's house by 10.30 am. On the morning itself, I sent the cat over at around 9am to Jayne's house and then went over to Jac's house to prepare our food as it we were suppose to have pot luck for lunch at the gathering. Jayne texted everyone to arrive at her house by 11 am and she texted Jac seperately, telling her that the event is at 12 pm. This is so that there could be more time to prepare the "stage". :D
When we reached Jayne's house at 12 pm, we began with playing a board game first. Because George didn't know that it was pot luck (how blur he is...), he went out to buy otak and chicken wings. After one long round of playing the game, we were all hungry and adjourned for lunch. We took photos and chatted during lunch and it was time for the plan to begin. I had to lure Jac away from where the cat and flowers were hidden and I did this by asking her to the sofa and told her that we will set up the board game first. Then Jayne came by and said, "I don't think we have time for another round of board game as I need to go to my friend's house and return her cat. She was overseas and left the cat in my care." Jac immediately said, "You've got a cat! Take out and let me play with it." (At this moment, I was grinning.... She reacted according to plan. haha!) Jayne's went into the room and took out the cat. Both Jac and I sat at the "staged' area and began playing with the cat. The tag was flipped and Jac couldn't see the words, so while carrying the cat, I kept trying to flip over the tag discretely with my index finger. I couldn't flip it over... It was such an anxious moment. Finally, out of curiosity, Jac lifted the tag and read the words and asked, "Jayne, your friend's boyfriend used this cat to propose to her ah?" That was the cue for me... I told her, "This cat's yours dear." Then I kneeled down and asked her, "Will you marry me?" She was in utter disbelief and kept thinking I was bluffing her, even though I had the ring in front of me. Then Jayne took out the flowers for me and I gave it to Jac. It was only then she realized that it was all true.
Tears rolled down her cheeks and it was the most memorable and heart warming moment when she said, "Yes I will marry you." My plan worked out smoothly! It was a huge load off my chest, worrying whether would she say yes or not. It was the happiest day of our lives, the beginning of a brand new journey into our relationship.
